Frequently asked questions

Answers about air suspension scales, installation and calibration. Your question isn't here? Give us a call: +43 664 524 18 17.

How does an air suspension scale work?

On air-sprung axles, the pressure in the air bags rises with the load. Pressure sensors measure this pressure and the unit converts it into axle load and gross weight. Leaf-sprung axles are measured with a height sensor that records the spring deflection. This lets you see every axle load and the gross weight right in the cab.

How accurate is the system?

Accuracy is 1–2 %. It depends on the vehicle configuration and its technical characteristics, for example suspension and axle arrangement.

Is the display legal for trade?

No. The air suspension scale is for checking while loading – for example to avoid overloading – and is not approved for billing by weight.

Does the system fit my vehicle?

The systems fit DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes, Renault, Scania and Volvo trucks with air/air or leaf/air suspension, up to 5 axles on the truck and up to 4 axles on the trailer. For trailers they are suitable for semi-trailers, drawbar trailers and tandem trailers. The quickest way to check is our request form.

Can I retrofit an axle scale to my truck?

Yes. Our axle load scales are designed for retrofitting – also on older vehicles. The pressure sensors are connected to the existing air suspension; leaf suspension additionally gets a height sensor. Installation takes 1.5 to 5 hours depending on the vehicle.

Which unit is right for me?

The LFW-ESP-DIN is installed in a free radio slot in the cab and is intended for trucks only. The LFW-ESP-20 sits in a rugged protective housing on the frame and is suitable for trucks and trailers. The LFW-ESP-M5 is a mobile touch display serving as an additional display for both systems.

Can I install the scale myself?

Yes. The kit contains all sensors and mounting material; no additional parts are needed. Installation can be done by you, your workshop or by us.

How long does installation take?

Between 1.5 and 5 hours depending on vehicle and configuration. A truck alone is quicker than a truck with trailer.

How is the system calibrated?

You calibrate the system yourself directly on the unit – on the LFW-ESP-20 also via IR remote control. No workshop is needed. The individual steps are described in the operating manual.

How does the trailer data get to the cab?

Wirelessly by radio. No cabling between tractor and trailer is needed. If you change trailers, simply select the trailer by its number.

Can I move the system to a new vehicle?

Yes, the system can be removed and installed in another vehicle. It makes sense to replace the air lines and T-pieces. If a height sensor has been in the old vehicle for several years, we recommend replacing it as well.

Where do you deliver and how fast?

We deliver throughout Europe, usually within 2–3 working days. Our systems are in use with customers in Austria, Germany, South Tyrol, Switzerland and Norway.

How much does an air suspension scale cost?

The LFW-ESP-20 is available from €603.00, the LFW-ESP-DIN from €698.00 (net, plus VAT and shipping). The exact price depends on the number of axles and the suspension – use the request form to get a quote for your vehicle.

What warranty applies?

The statutory warranty for businesses applies. Spare parts such as height sensors, cables or housings are always available from us.
